Call for Submissions: Handwoven March/April 2024—Flights of Fancy

Inspiration issues are always fun to think up. In this case, someone gave me the idea of using objects that fly as the theme for an issue, and if I could remember who, I’d give them credit! If you’d like to join in and submit a project or article proposal, here is what I am looking for: Weaving and writing about weaving based on birds, planes, clouds, flags, and anything else that flies, whether literally or figuratively. You can drill down into the feathers on a bird or the twill pattern in the seatback on your last flight, or you can float up with a cloud of butterflies or the geese that fly past your home every evening in a perfect V. I can’t wait to see where this idea takes us.

In addition, in upcoming issues, I'd like to publish funny stories from you, our readers, about something you did while designing, planning, warping, weaving, or finishing a project that makes you laugh when you think about it. I’ve got a few gems of my own, so I know you also have some wonderful anecdotes. Please send them to handwoven@longthreadmedia.com and include pictures if you have any!

Please note that we have changed our submission process and are using a new submission form. We base our project selections for each issue on contributor photographs. We will review the proposals and ask for additional photographs if needed, to be sent in by June 26th for this issue. After the project-selection meeting, we will contact everyone whose project is accepted and ask that it be submitted along with the project paperwork by the final submissions date listed below.

Proposals for projects and articles due: 05/08/2023.
Submissions in the form of photographs and article outlines due: 06/26/2023.
Final submissions, including projects and paperwork due: 08/07/2023.
