Just about anyone is capable of winding a warp and weaving a scarf on a rigid-heddle loom, but weaving a wonderful scarf takes thought, planning, and sometimes a fair amount of patience. This is why I love Loom Theory: Rigid-Heddle Scarf Collection.
Random design is a fascinating concept, but well-designed is also wonderful, and a good designer can do both. We didn’t randomly choose designers for the three Loom Theory 2018 lookbooks.
I love weaving that boldly proclaims its complexity—the sorts of projects that make weavers and nonweavers alike ooh and ahh. Deflected doubleweave, for example, is bold and loud in all the best ways, a bit like the Dolly Parton of weaving.
Deflected doubleweave is a delightful, versatile structure. You can use it to weave up circles, flowers, and even bubbles. When she wanted to weave a scarf inspired by the beautiful mosaics she saw in Spain, Anu Bhatia turned to deflected doubleweave.
For some reason, as soon as the weather starts to get cold, I see people all over the internet rejoicing about sweater weather.
Remembering my own progress in learning to weave, I conceived of Loom Theory: Eight and Over Eight Scarf Collection to help other weavers progress in their own weaving careers. Like many weavers, I started weaving on 4-shaft looms.
