Transform warp threads into a decorative feature with this finishing technique.

Divide the threads for each fringe into two groups. Twist each group clockwise the same number of times until the yarn kinks. Bring the groups together and allow them to twist around each other counter-clockwise (or twist them in that direction). Secure the ends with an overhand knot. You can use these same methods to make a plied cord by attaching one end of the groups to a stationary object.
Manual and battery-operated fringe twisters are available.
To make consistent fringes, twist all the groups the same number of times.
Use a weight to hold your handwoven in place as you twist its fringes.
For consistent fringe length, work on a gridded mat.
Don’t fully tighten knots until all the fringes are twisted—then, nudge the positioning of any up or down as needed to align, and tighten.
After knotting, trim the fringes to the same length with a straight edge and rotary cutter.
