Call For Submissions: Handwoven March/April 2022—National Parks and Museums

Visiting museums and national parks has been one of the things I’ve missed while staying home because of COVID-19. We’ve all done our part of going online to see beautiful photographs of art and nature, but let’s be honest, a Van Gogh up close and personal at the Musée d’Orsay beats any digital versions by a long shot. Videos of wild life are wonderful and interesting, but the thrill of seeing a herd of bison in Yellowstone is a whole other thing.

For Handwoven March/April 2022, we are asking for articles and projects that reflect your love for one of the many national parks and museums in the United States and around the world. Maybe the tile museum in Lisbon, Portugal, amazed you, or the vision of a snowy Mount Fuji in the distance has always stayed with you. Perhaps you prefer the serenity of the red rocks of Arches National Park in the early morning over the fury of the volcanos of Hawaii. Let your favorite park or museum be your inspiration.

National Parks and Museums Being stuck at home for much of 2020 and some of 2021 made many of us long for travel. What park or museum did you miss the most? Show us how national treasures both natural and man-made have inspired you to weave projects and describe the path you took to design and weave them. Articles for the issue should address this theme or explore how to develop and use palettes in weaving.

Please note that we have changed our submission process and are also using a new submission form. We base our project selections for each issue on contributor photographs. We will review the proposals and ask for additional photographs if needed, to be sent in at the beginning of August for this issue. After the project-selection meeting, we will contact everyone whose project is accepted and ask that it be submitted along with the project paperwork.

Submissions in the form of photographs and article outlines due: 07/12/2021
Final submissions, including projects and paperwork, due: 08/06/2021
