Smart Clothing: Google Partners with Levis to Develop Interactive Fabric

First smartphones, then smart watches, and now...smart clothes! It may sound a bit far-fetched, but Google has teamed up with Levis to turn wearable items such as jeans, jackets, and perhaps even furniture into interactive devices.

By weaving special electronically-charged thread called Jacquard yarn into fabric, Google says a clothing item would be able to function as a touchscreen of sorts, understanding various movements like swiping your fingers on a sleeve or crossing your legs to trigger a number of programmed actions. This also opens the opportunity for the special fabric to link to external devices such as smartphones, leading to the introduction of new apps that we couldn't have even imagined until now. For example, the interactive fabric could detect if the wearer is gaining weight and offer health tips and advice.
